FAQ

Questions coaches and families ask

The basics

Which sports does Dugout Crew work for?

Softball and baseball. Positions, scoring and stats work the same for both. Softball teams can play 9 or 10 fielders; baseball teams play 9. Each team sets its usual number of innings, and you can change it for any game.

Do I need the website or the app?

Managers set up the team, roster, schedule and invitations on the website. Game day (check-in, lineups and scoring) happens in the iPhone or Android app. Families can use either; the app adds game reminders and notifications.

How much does it cost?

$19 per team, per season, paid by one of the team's managers. Families, scorekeepers and everyone else on the team never pay. One payment covers a season for up to six months, and there's no monthly bill.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Your first 14 days are free, starting when you register your first team. Before anything is charged, the website tells you how much and asks you to confirm.

What happens if a season isn't paid for?

The team is paused: its games are hidden in the app and nothing can be changed, but nothing is lost. A manager can renew it on the website and everything comes back. Archived teams are never charged.

How many teams can I run?

As many as you like, each at $19 per season. When a season is over, archive the team. Archived teams stay viewable, stats and all.

Game day

What if there's no signal at the field?

The app downloads the coming week's games ahead of time. Check-in, lineups and scoring all work offline, and everything sends when the phone reconnects.

How is the lineup decided?

The batting order puts the best season on-base percentage first, then everyone else by jersey number. In the field, bench time is shared evenly, nobody sits two innings in a row or repeats a position back to back when it can be avoided, and players get the positions they prefer first. You can change anything before or during the game.

Can more than one person keep score?

Yes. Give anyone the Scorekeeper role. Other phones pick up changes when they're pulled down to refresh, or when the app is opened again.

Does it count pitches?

Yes. The scorekeeper taps Ball, Strike or Foul for each pitch, and the app asks at ball four or strike three whether it's a walk or a strikeout. Batters get pitches seen. Turn on pitching stats in your team's settings to also record the other team's at-bats, for your pitchers' innings, pitch counts, strikeouts and walks. Scorekeepers who'd rather not count pitches can switch it off in the app.

Do I have to name the other team's players?

No. With pitching stats on, the other team's batters are just Batter 1, Batter 2 and so on, in their batting order.

Families

How do families join?

Managers send an invitation from the website with a short code and QR code. Families install the app, tap Join a team and enter the code. Step-by-step guide.

Can families follow a game they can't make?

Yes. Once the game starts, its Live tab shows the score, inning and outs, who's up to bat, the latest plays and the box score. Pull down to refresh. The score comes from the scorekeeper's phone, so on a weak signal at the field it can run a few minutes behind, and the app shows when it was last updated.

Can families see how much their player plays?

Yes. Each player's stats show their innings in the field out of the innings they were at the game for, so it's easy to see that bench time is shared out.

What can families see and change?

They see the roster, schedule, lineups, live games and stats. They can mark their own player going or not going, change their own player's photo and read team messages. Only managers and scorekeepers change lineups or scores.

Can families share photos from games?

Yes. Anyone on the team can post photos from a game, tag the players in them and add a caption: in the app (the game's Photos tab) or on the game's page on the website. Each player's page in the app collects the photos they're tagged in. Posting a photo needs a connection.

Can families turn off notifications?

Yes. Game reminders and team messages each have their own switch at the bottom of the app's home screen.

Privacy

How are photos protected?

Every photo, whether a player's roster photo or one from a game, is redrawn on our servers, which removes location, camera and date details. Only team members get links to photos.

Can I stop my child being tagged in a photo?

Yes. Open the photo and tap your player's name to take the tag off. Once you've done that, nobody else can tag them in that photo again. Whoever posted a photo, and the team's managers, can also delete it.

How do I delete my account?

On the website, click your email address at the top and choose Account. In the app, use Account and deletion at the bottom of the home screen. Your memberships go with the account.
